Manager sacked for "ferocious texting" during work hours

A manager's "ferocious texting" during work hours made it "impossible to believe" she did any work at all, the Fair Work Commission has chided in rejecting her unfair dismissal claim.

Clear Day Pty Ltd sacked the health, safety, environment and training manager in August last year for performing non-work-related activities during work hours.

The FWC heard the employer became aware in June that the manager had been receiving excessive phone calls and texts at work, relating to her private business.

Concerned the manager wasn't performing her duties, the employer's director met with her a few weeks later and directed her to turn off her phone while she was at the office.

According to the employer, the manager followed the directive for about a week, before the conduct started again...
