Long-serving manager's PIP "may have been an overreaction": FWC

The Fair Work Commission has chastised an employer for treating a long-serving manager "with disdain", but has stopped short of finding its conduct was aimed at ending his employment.

In November last year, the Smartech Systems Oceania IT manager complained to the chief people officer about the CEO's behaviour towards him in a meeting the week before, which related to the CEO's growing concerns about the organisation's cybersecurity.

According to the manager, who had worked for the employer for 23 years, the CEO "vehemently" swore during the meeting and expressed frustration that the manager had apparently done nothing to allay his fears...
