HR manager who showed "enormous" compassion cleared of bullying

An organisation accused of harming an employee's mental health has been cleared of bullying allegations, with the Fair Work Commission accepting it "turned itself inside out" to accommodate him.

The City Mission employee started volunteer shifts at its Youngtown site in 2019, prior to paid shifts as a driver's offsider in 2019. In November 2020, he heard a new employee was taking over some of his offsider shifts.

When he asked about this a warehouse manager told him he was unreliable, started his breaks early, left work early, slept on the job – and used depression "as an excuse".

The employee complained he had not been informed of any issues before his shifts changed, and a series of meetings and emails followed...
