High approval rates and rapid turnarounds boost access to overseas talent

The approval time for employer-sponsored visas has sped up dramatically, while the number of approvals has almost doubled, according to a migration expert who says further positive changes are on the way.

NB Migration Law founder and migration principal lawyer Agnes Kemenes says the influx of international talent is helping to alleviate some skills shortages, but employers still aren't using the system to their full advantage.

Approval is now "pretty fast", and sometimes "extremely fast", she tells HR Daily.

She recently sponsored an overseas employee and the process took only a month. But for employers with an accreditation it can be as short as one-to-two days, compared to the previous norm of six-to-eight months...
