Flawed investigation denied employee a "fair go"

An employee who was "locked out" of her workplace before discovering she'd been sacked for fraud and policy breaches has won compensation for unfair dismissal.

The Drewmaster resort accountant at the Palmer Coolum Resort in Queensland told the Fair Work Commission that in July last year she found out the employer's secretary and ultimate owner, Clive Palmer, believed construction workers at the resort were stealing and misappropriating funds.

She said when she arrived at work on 3 August, a rumour was circulating that she had been dismissed and had "walked off site". This caused her to become distressed, and she took leave until 8 August...
