"Firmness does not equate to harshness"; stop-bullying claim rejected

An employee has failed to prove two managers spoke to her in an "aggressive, intimidating and belittling" way, with the Fair Work Commission accepting their communications were "firm" but respectful.

The communications coordinator for the Council of Christian Education in Schools applied for stop-bullying orders against the employer, her manager (the communications director) and the CEO, alleging they had subjected her to "aggressive, intimidating and belittling comments, victimisation and unreasonable work expectations".

On one occasion, the employee claimed, a colleague mentioned wanting to travel and she said they should "just believe, and it would happen"; the manager responded by "scoffing" and saying, "that is poor theology". The employee said she was offended, and believed the remark amounted to religious discrimination...
