EY leaders "normalised" bullying as performance management: report

Staff at EY Oceania say workplace bullying has often been "excused or normalised" as performance management, and half of those who reported the behaviour were dissatisfied with the company's response, according to a culture review.

The independent review into EY Oceania's workplace culture, undertaken by former Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick and her team, found that while the "vast majority" of staff and partners felt safe at work, 15% had experienced bullying in the past five years (17% of women and 13% of men).

The most common behaviours workers experienced included: unjustified criticism or complaints (11%); belittling or humiliating (9%), aggressive or intimidating comments or conduct (8%); and unreasonable timelines or constantly changing deadlines (8%)...
