Divorce and separation support missing from wellbeing programs

Divorce and separation policies are just as important for employers to have in place as those covering parental and bereavement leave, a lawyer says.

"Most psychologists will agree, trauma of separation and divorce is very much akin to stages of any bereavement process and sometimes it is worse," says Bill Kordos, head of family law in Victoria at Australian Family Lawyers, which has launched a new corporate program.

Divorce numbers are rising; up 4.3% between 2020 and 2021, and the "trauma and effects" of divorce can be felt in organisations for a minimum of one-to-two years afterwards, says Kordos...
