Coaching during onboarding alleviates key "pain points"

"Gifting" employees with coaching from day one instead of using it reactively is alleviating some key "pain points" for employers, an expert says.

Alison Hernandez, the outgoing APAC managing director of Randstad RiseSmart, says that traditionally, many employers don't invest in coaching until departure or disruption are already on the cards.

"However our philosophy is that if you actually bring that forward and gift someone with the power of a coach on their first day... you would actually neutralise the need because when change strikes, people will already be prepared for it.

"If they had coaching throughout their journey with the employer, [then] if change strikes – if there is increased digitalisation, or there's a merger, or an acquisition, or offshoring, or outsourcing – they've actually got all their career ducks in a row; they're facing the future; in a way they've actually future-proofed themselves..."
