Casual conversion would have "spared" employee from unfair dismissal: FWC

It was unfair of an employer not to inform a worker that it was reducing its casual headcount, and that rejecting a permanent conversion offer put his job at risk, the Fair Work Commission has ruled.

Commissioner Paul Schneider found that if the employer had properly consulted the employee about its decision, then he would have had greater reason to consider converting.

Ames Australasia sacked the casual store person in November last year, on the basis that a downturn in business meant it no longer needed casuals or agency staff...
