Bargaining on the rise as multi-employer arrangements loom

Employers are now playing an increasingly active role in bargaining, with lawyers suggesting many are "getting ahead" of the multi-employer arrangements starting in June.

According to Ashurst's 2023 Bargaining Survey Report – involving a range of employers, including the ASX200 and major government departments – employers are now more likely to bargain because they initiated it themselves, than for any other reason.

Apart from a small decline in 2021, the law firm's previous surveys show employer-initiated bargaining has been increasing since 2017, and according to the report's authors Stephen Woodbury and Trent Sebbens, the trend is likely to continue...
