"Transactional" approach to redeployment won't cut it: lawyer

Redeployment is the area of redundancies and restructures where employers struggle the most to meet their legal obligations, a workplace lawyer says.

When a role is made redundant, employers are obligated to consider whether redeployment into a different role, with or without training, is possible for the employee, King & Wood Mallesons senior consultant Brett Feltham says in a new HR Daily Premium webcast.

Discussion and consultation with the affected employee "really forms part of the redeployment requirement", he stresses, and failing to approach this properly can undermine an organisation's defence against unfair dismissal claims...
