Too much transparency dangerous in times of change

In an age of increasing mental health literacy, too much transparency can actually be a bad thing, says a workplace culture specialist.

Speaking at the recent Unmind conference, Culture Amp's work culture evangelist Damon Klotz has warned against leaders going into "default transparency mode" during times of uncertainty at work.

"I am not saying leaders shouldn't be using their emotions in company meetings," he says; rather, they should be knowing the "right time and context" to share information, so that employees feel supported, without being "bombarded".

But with the rise of personal issues entering the workplace, managers are in a place of, "one day I was talking to you about your OKRs and last week I felt like an unlicensed therapist"...
