Time to get on the "front foot" with sexual harassment compliance

It's understandable if the latest sexual harassment reforms have "slipped under the radar" for many employers, but those that don't act fast might get caught off guard, an employment lawyer warns.

There has so far only been one decision handed down under the Fair Work Commission's new powers to order sexual harassment to stop, and, as occurred with stop-bullying applications, it might take some time for the jurisdiction to gain traction, says Colin Biggers & Paisley partner Megan Kavanagh.

"That said, because we've now got some familiarity with the stop-bullying jurisdiction, it may move a little bit quicker," she tells HR Daily.

"But, the reality is there has not been much publication or promotion of the change – I think that when the claims start coming, some employers might be caught off guard or somewhat flat-footed...
