Suncorp backpays $32m after incorrectly applying EA clause

Suncorp has backpaid almost $32 million to underpaid workers and entered an enforceable undertaking (EU) with the Fair Work Ombudsman, after inconsistently applying a clause in its enterprise agreements.

Some 15,800 employees were underpaid between 2014 and early 2021 due to the misunderstanding and inconsistent use of the term "rostered employee", and the rostered employee clause in the company's EAs.

(Under the EAs, a rostered employee is defined as "one who is regularly rostered to work shifts in which some or all of their working hours regularly fall outside the scope of ordinary hours")...
