Stigma holds back progress on addressing AOD dependency at work

Many employers aren't doing enough to address alcohol and other dr-g (AOD) dependency in the workplace, but some of their wellbeing programs might still be alleviating the problem indirectly, a rehabilitation specialist says.

Substance abuse is classified as a mental disorder, and employees often turn to AOD as a coping mechanism, says Jake Majerovic, co-founder and strategic director of rehab clinic Hope in Health.
