Pronoun visibility drives inclusion at work

Using the correct pronouns for employees is a small but critical step towards greater workplace inclusion, according to a diversity expert.

When it comes to supporting transgender and non-binary employees, including personal pronouns in emails, on name badges, and in introductions sends a big signal from employers, says ACON pride inclusion programs director Dawn Emsen-Hough.

"It's not about political correctness, it's about understanding that humanity is not that black and white," she tells HR Daily.

"That's where we go wrong – people think it's about political correctness or it's about the activist brigade. No, people that have not fallen neatly into the category of male or female have existed for all time regardless of what you may personally think or believe..."
