Flu season to hit hard; how HR can combat absenteeism

Flu season is already upon us, but it's not too late for employers to reduce the significant impact it's expected to have on workplaces this winter.

Australian employers are seeing substantial levels of absenteeism rates across country – way above and beyond normal baselines for this time of year – because people have not built up immunity to the annual flu event, says Jamie MacLennan, senior vice president and managing director, Asia Pacific at global employee wellbeing provider LifeWorks.

"Two years of lockdowns and good behaviour like mask wearing has seen a significant number of people hit with a 'double whammy' of COVID and the flu as well as other general health bugs," he tells HR Daily.
