It's easy to label every bad manager as "toxic", but intentions set apart incompetent leaders from toxic bosses, a culture specialist says.
Although an incompetent boss might be "frustrating", their behaviour usually comes from upwards pressure to "do more with less" – particularly as organisations adapt to the new world of work, says people and culture expert Blythe Rowe.
"While that's still frustrating, it doesn't leave that impact that 'you're not good enough'," she tells HR Daily.
In contrast, a toxic boss is "more malicious" and will seek to undermine employees, creating an environment of self-doubt...
