"Small issues" and disrespect ballooning into costly claims

A growing number of mental health claims stem from "small issues" that could have been nipped in the bud early, an insurance expert says.

These smaller issues are usually an indicator of frustration around how things are managed, interpersonal problems, or a general lack of respect, says Lockton employee care manager Morag Fitzsimons.

"It will come often from little things like people constantly being late to meetings that they've made with somebody, or constantly cancelling them, sitting in meetings and rolling their eyes when someone speaks, or managers being indiscreet," she tells HR Daily.

These instances indicate a lack of respect, but it's when that environment is sustained that employees ultimately characterise them as bullying and harassment...
