The causes and symptoms of burnout are now better understood, but employers are yet to catch up with addressing some of its more serious physical health impacts, a clinical and academic neurologist says.
Dr Patrick Aouad tells HR Daily that throughout the pandemic, the definition of burnout became clearer.
"Burnout now is understood as emotional and intellectual exhaustion, usually related to work specifically, so it's a reactive mental health problem."
Some factors that contribute to burnout include: unrealistic timeframes; deteriorating work culture; a lack of community or connectedness; feeling undervalued; and not understanding how a role contributes to the 'bigger picture'...
