'Pay for skills' on the up and up: Mercer

After many years as a distant agenda item there's now a dramatic increase in organisations considering 'pay for skills' models.

According to Mercer's 2021 Global Talent Trends study, more than one-third (34%) of Australian companies are considering an approach where the demand for certain skills rather than specific jobs will determine remuneration.

Even before the pandemic, "there was this ever-evolving concept of pay for skills", says Mercer's career business leader, Cynthia Cottrell.

"What was driving it back then was this understanding that skills have a short shelf life. In Australia in particular, there was certain skill types in short supply," she tells HR Daily...
