'Ignorant' performance management process caused psych injury

The issues that triggered an employee's performance management should have instead prompted "proactive and practical training", a tribunal has found in awarding compensation for a psych injury.

The employee, who had worked for the Queensland Police Service for more than 35 years, began work as a senior investigator with the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) in January 2018.

In October that year a team leader who had been on leave returned to work and, after an office reshuffle, became the employee's supervisor.

A few months later, the supervisor and acting regional manager told him two senior leaders were leaving the team and that the employee needed to "step up"; they also raised concerns about his attention to detail and accuracy...
