Employee awarded damages after "friendly" manager's harassment

A manager has failed to prove that numerous instances of physical contact with his subordinate occurred in the context of a "supportive and caring" employment relationship.

The employee, a Gumboots Australia production coordinator, claimed he sexually harassed her between August 2019 and January 2020, and sought $183k in damages.

She complained to the employer and then went on sick leave, and the manager was subsequently dismissed.

On her return to work, her colleagues asked why the manager had been sacked, which she said made her feel anxious and stressed. She felt like the workplace was no longer safe for her and that she had no choice but to resign...
