Lack of training didn't excuse "demonstrably false" record-keeping

A team leader who falsified records "must have known" he was doing the wrong thing, given his position and experience, a commission has found.

In September last year, the Lord Howe Island Board dismissed the asset management team leader for misconduct, alleging he failed to carry out two serviceability inspections of the Island's airport and created false records to indicate he had conducted them.

The team leader challenged his dismissal and sought reinstatement, arguing the first allegation was due to a "mistake or oversight", and the second, while constituting misconduct, nonetheless didn't justify the termination of his employment...
